M.A. SCCP PhD Student
Ruxandra Filip is a PhD student in the School and Clinical Child Psychology program, at the Ontario Educational Institute for Studies in Education (OISE), University of Toronto.
Previously, Ruxandra completed her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Bachelor of Education degrees concurrently at Queen’s University, with a focus on early cognitive development and teaching exceptional learners. She then went on to teach at the International School of Brussels. After five years of teaching first grade, she returned to Toronto to further pursue her combined interests in early childhood education research and clinical psychology with a Master’s in School and Clinical Child Psychology.
Ruxandra’s research explores how Kindergarten educators balance play-based learning approaches with direct and systematic instructional approaches for teaching early literacy skills. She is passionate about developing resources to support educator training in effective early literacy practices and is currently working with the Learn Different team to develop a Kindergarten course for educators. As a doctoral clinician conducting psychological assessments, Ruxandra strives to bring together various perspectives on a student’s strengths and challenges and advocate for essential intervention programs and accommodations for her clients.
