Academic Intervention Lead

Shawn supervises and oversees the progress of our online academic interventions and the You Are Not Alone parent coaching program. After completing their B.A. in Psychology and Neuroscience from McGill University, Shawn obtained their M.Ed. in Developmental Psychology and Education from the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education, where they completed a research project on the developmental trajectory of math anxiety in elementary school. They then obtained a Master of Arts in Developmental Psychology and Education, where their research project examined the role of family functioning in substance use treatment outcomes for youth with learning disabilities. Prior to completing their graduate degree, Shawn was a certified tennis coach for six years, specialized in working with children and adults with special needs and disabilities. They’re very passionate about utilizing both their research and professional experiences to improve educational accessibility and support our most vulnerable students.

Doctoral Clinician

After completing their second Master’s, Shawn then pursued their second Master of Arts in School and Clinical Child Psychology, where they completed their thesis examining the impact of emotional intelligence and learning challenges on substance use treatment outcomes for youth. During their SCCP Master’s, they received training on conducting psychological assessments and completed a one-year practicum in the Toronto District School Board. Shawn now administers psychological assessments at Bright Lights Psychology Clinic. Currently, Shawn is in the first year of their PhD at OISE, University of Toronto. When conducting assessments, Shawn strives towards using a social-justice framework with the goal to engage in culturally-appropriate and collaborative process with clients and their families.
